UPA Contraception
HRA Pharma is developing two UPA contraceptive products (UPAC-ring and UPAC-IUS) based on the molecule ulipristal acetate, a new chemical entity which modulates the activity of the progesterone receptor.
The UPA Contraception project consists of formulating ulipristal acetate for local administration via a number of novel delivery systems so it can be used as a method of continuous contraception. UPA Contraception products promise to bring true innovation to the field of contraception, as a locally delivered, non-estrogenic hormone that enables good cycle control. These projects are being pursued in collaboration with the Population Council, a leader in the development of innovative contraceptive technologies.
